Green Beauty, why and what is it?

Have you ever questioned the quality of the ingredients in your everyday products??

This is green beauty, it refers to natural skincare, made from nature and or naturally derived ingredients.

Green beauty has found its way into our lifestyle and with good reason, it started with brands breaking free from the usual highly processed, chemical solutions we have been told will break the aging barrier, create eternal youthful skin and reverse the clocks of aging. Green products demonstrate high quality ingredients, that are natural, chemical-free and safe for people’s overall health & skin.

Not only is green beauty highly associated with a natural product, it also demonstrates a commitment to using products that are created with sustainable practices, ethical sourcing, and eco-friendly ingredients.

Green Beauty V’s Clean Beauty

Although the 2, sound almost the same and could easily be mixed up, there actually is a difference between the 2.

I must admit that both green beauty and clean beauty do share very similar values when it comes to being an environmentally friendly product, they do however vary slightly.

Green beauty products stand out by what they exclude – harmful chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and additives. Green beauty relies on the power of natural and wholesome, plant-based products, while keeping to eco-friendly ingredients and sustainable practices. This approach seeks to not only benefit your skin but also minimise its impact on the environment.

While on the other hand, clean beauty focuses on safety by excluding harmful chemicals from products, ensuring that what you apply to your skin is free from potentially toxic ingredients such as fragrances, phthalates and parabens, clean beauty can still contain man-made substances.

While these concepts may seem similar, understanding the 2 can help you make informed choices that align with your values and skincare needs.

Green beauty = naturally derived ingredients from plants. Does not contain harmful ingredients at all.

Clean beauty = free from toxic ingredients such as fragrances, phthalates and parabens. May still have some natural or synthetic ingredients.

Why Choose Green Beauty?

There have been many reports which has specified that personal care products lack the correct testing for both long and short term on their safety for an individual, these items include, makeup, shampoo, body wash, skin lotion, nail polish, along with other personal care products. A study revealed that the average woman who uses conventional beauty products would apply 500 chemicals to their skin on a daily basis. This information alone is kind of crazy to believe, and this is not even including other lifestyle chemicals we cross throughout the day.

By choosing green beauty products, you’re embracing an overall healthier lifestyle for you and your family, while contributing to sustainability and reduced environmental impacts.

Some benefits of going green include

• Hormonal health Reduced risk of irritation
• No harmful chemicals
• Cruelty-free
• Sustainable packaging
• Ethical practices

How to Identify Green Beauty Products

Look for certifications and labels that vouch for a product’s green beauty credentials.

Reading ingredient lists and understanding what to avoid is also key.

It’s no secret that the case of greenwashing is prevalent, with some conventional brands making misleading eco-friendly claims, but with green beauty you’ll always be given transparent information, nothing hiding – that’s the difference.

Incorporating Green Beauty into Your Routine

Making green beauty a part of your daily regimen is safer for you and simpler than you might think. This industry is really in the spot light at the moment and for good reason! There are many amazing green products on the market which are reasonably priced, you can find these products in your health food store, grocery store, chemist and at local markets.

And if you don’t mind a little DIY, you can certainly make up a few of your own concoctions to add to your daily regime.

A few of my favourite products don’t even need anything added to them, for instance

  • Jojoba oil is one of my favourite moisturisers, this can be used day or night
  • Rosehip oil, the vitamin C in this oil is great for keeping skin bright and youthful, once again this can be used either day or night
  • Almond oil, I love to use this all over my body, I mix mine 60% almond oil to 40% aloe gel with 10 drops of my favourite essential oil, used as a moisturiser replacement.
  • Castor oil, for body or hair
  • Aloe gel, used on irritated skin or sun burn, I actually love to blend this together with my almond oil, to create a lighter body oil, it is also delightful when kept in the fridge, especially in summer!
  • Bicarb soda, used as a facial scrub, just make a paste with adding a little water, can be used all over the body too
  • Coffee grinds, when blended with coconut oil, a little sea salt and an essential oil, this is a fabulous all over body scrub (if you use on your face just be gentle, as this can be a little abrasive)
  • Bentonite clay, this makes a great facial mask, mix with a little jojoba oil, water and frankincense oil to make a hydrating face mask – NOTE, bentonite clay cannot be mix or placed in a metal bowl, use ceramic or wood.
bottom line

By choosing green beauty products, you’re embracing healthier, more radiant skin, improving your hormonal health, reducing your overall contact to man-made chemicals while also contributing to sustainability and reduced environmental impact.

The best way to start your change into the green direction is by slowly replacing products in your bathroom and beauty regime as they run out, this way it is more cost effective and you can do your own research about which brands align with you and your skin, happy shopping!!
